ironically it took a while for them to speak to each other after michaela's first race in 2019

on michaela's end, she was partially intimidated by the spaniard with a hidden temper and luxurious hair

as for carlos, he just wasn't interested in speaking to the rookie with a constant storm of media, expectation, and scrutiny surrounding her at every waking moment

between awkward nods in the media pen and the weird back-and-forth following and unfollowing on instagram, any hope for true interaction was very limited

those hopes were destroyed altogether after michaela went wide on a turn, taking carlos with her, during the 2021 canadian grand prix

despite carlos immediately jumping out of his car to charge after michaela (and her literally shaking in fear at the sight of him) this was the start of a beautiful friendship

endless talking, somehow never run out of stuff to say

the two dumb bitches telling each other "exactly"

constantly gossiping about the drama on the grid

can and will tell each other about someone else's business and add a quick little "but who am i to judge" at the end as if it changes the fact that they are absolutely judging

very much padel in the spring, yachting in the summer, and pretending not to know each other on race weekends (they cannot maintain their friendship while also being competitors)

shocked everyone except lando who has always been painfully aware of how much michaela prefers carlos to him

fernando thought they were dating for an uncomfortably long time before michaela publicly shut that rumor down by violently gagging into her microphone (carlos thought that was hilarious)

carlos is unsuccessfully teaching michaela spanish and is somehow shocked she picked up all the ways to cuss him out and not anything else of necessity

once helped her dye her hair the day before qualifying in monaco

needless to say, it was tucked underneath her cap the entire weekend

I mean, do I have to say anything about this one? Pretty sure this was the first fic in the Charlos Sr tag on AO3, and I have more in that tag. I just really, really love the idea of these two and I want to write some more when I get going again.

how bratty omega princess lando norris met very professional and foolhardy alpha personal security guard carlos sainz jr - the summary is in the title. i don't know what to say.

This was such a 'I'm drunk and bored and want to write' fic. It started as little snippets in the Carlando server and then I just started writing it all out, and it ended in this which is a fun fic. Even though it's not my best, I definitely have soft spot for it.

i want you to know (that i'm all yours) - Lando keeps making mistakes with men called Carlos. He keeps making mistakes until one night when he doesn't.

This was the first fic I as part of a challenge (that wasn't hosted by me). I don't remember what it's called but it's a very smutty challenge. I don't know what came over me, but I love the hell out of it and the premise is *chefs kiss*

summer sweat - "Now it's Carlos' turn to bite his lips. A moan almost escapes them, but he manages to hold back. Lando puts his lips on Carlos' earlobe and presses a soft kiss to it before whispering. 'I fingered myself in the bathroom. I'm ready.' It's an order, one that Carlos is barely able to deny. 'Not in front of your parents, Lando!' It's strangled; all of his energy is going into keeping his composure" or Carlos spends a hot summer day with Lando and his family, and Lando has some plans.

This is just pure smut. Someone sent me a prompt here on Tumblr and I just went with it and it definitely turned into one of my favourite little Carlando fics. So thank you to whoever it was that inspired this <3

You Found Me - Absolutely nothing had gone to plan. Lando had known that teaming up with the CNI was a bad idea, he didn’t trust them one bit. Especially Sainz, with who he had unfortunately been partnered or Lando is MI6 and is forced to work with an arrogant CNI intelligence officer named Carlos.

What an epic. It took me almost 2,5 years to complete, mostly because I am so bad at updating. This started from a tiny drabble I wrote back in 2021, and it kinda just snowballed from that. I am going to write a sequel, when I get the spirit of writing back into me.

Reviewing New Year Sale Outfits in Twisted Wonderland

In Japan, New Year's Day (お正月, or "Oshogatsu") is the biggest holiday of the year, and it is also my favorite. That being said, the TWST artists never disappoint when it comes to the art for this event, so let's review all of the cards!

Spoiler warning for upcoming ENG and JP sever event cards, including some Groovy art!

Round 1: 2021-2022

Kalim Al-Asim (SSR)

Look at him, he's so festive and cheerful

This Kalim, as well as Deuce's SR, have a special place in my heart. I started playing TWST the summer it came out, but I wasn't a "serious" player until around New Year. Kalim and Deuce were my first "duo magic" pair, and I love their interactions in the story as well.

I love his headband ribbon and how it matches his obi. The sparkly hakama also suits him. I'm excited to see Jamil's version of this outfit as well, but we all know it'll be a very long time until Jamil volunteers to work retail during the peak season.

12/10 he's so cute

Deuce Spade (SR)

I was surprised that this was just an SR, and that you could get him by finishing the event story. His outfit is so detailed!

I chose his Groovy art so you could see that he's wearing sneakers with his outfit, which I found funny. Cater is wearing similar shoes in his own SR, so it must be part of the Heartslabyul New Year attire. It still feels very in-character for Deuce.

The silhouette of his outfit is interesting. His jacket is short like a suit jacket, but has the sleeves of a haori. There are lots of elements of his dorm uniform, like the pins and sash around his waist.

Not only does he look awesome, but he chose to work during the New Year's Sale to buy a present for his mother.

12/10 very cool and wholesome

Round 2: 2022-2023

Ruggie Bucchi (SSR)

HIS HAIR!!!

Aside from Vargas Camp and his birthday cards, Ruggie doesn't have a lot of SSRs, so I'm happy for him. I look forward to getting him in the English server soon.

I love how Ruggie seems to have picked up a lot of merchandise from around the store. Aside from a fan, which all the boys are using as their "weapons" for battles, he has a little koi bag, which I love so much (I have a similar one). The little toy he's holding is called a den-den daiko (でんでん太鼓), which is popular for young children.

11/10 congrats on getting the job, Ruggie!

Cater Diamond (SR)

I chose to show his un-Groovy art, because it's easier to see his outfit.

His clothes are similar to Deuce's, except that his "vest" is red, and he is wearing a button-down shirt underneath. The mix of Japanese and Western influences reminds me of Taisho-era clothing. He looks like Kazushi Tatsuishi in the anime version of My Happy Marriage, which also happens to be set in the Taisho Era.

It's hard to see in this picture, but he has a hairpin in his hair!

10/10 he slays

Sebek Zigvolt (SSR)

He looks so dramatic with his gloves and fur collar, but are we surprised? He's a Diasomnia student, after all. I wish they had given him a different hat, though, because it looks almost identical to his dorm uniform.

This one makes me laugh, because he poses like my dad. Not seen in this image is Sebby's neon-green geta, which I think my dad would love (he likes having shoes in unusual colors).

10/10 who needs fireworks on New Year's Eve when you have Sebby?

Vil Schoenheit (SR)

He stole the show.

At first glance, his outfit may bear too heavy a resemblance to the regular Pomefiore uniforms, since they're already inspired by kimono.

With his fascinator hat, netted gloves, and black nail polish, though, Vil adds a sense of mystery and intrigue to his outfit. He looks like he is playing the role of a Taisho-era socialite who poisoned their lover and is now actively avoiding the police.

Either that, or he got divorced from Rook. After all, it looks like he is wearing a furisode (a type of kimono meant for single women) rather than a tomesode (worn by married women), like in his dorm uniform.

11/10. The storytelling potential is limitless.

Round 3: 2023-2024

Trey Clover (SSR)

I love his scarf and hat. His coat looks longer than Deuce's and Cater's, and more like a haori. Overall, it looks like a cozy combination.

Like Cater, he is also wearing a button-down shirt under his kimono, and his vest is green. Heartslabyul is the only dorm that gets a character in this event every year, so it's nice to see that the outfits are personalized for each character.

He looks like he could be someone's uncle, but you know for sure that he'd spoil his nieces and nephews.

10/10 very classy, if he was working at the store and I came to visit, I'd trust him.

Ortho Shroud (SR)

ADORABLE.

Something I've always found interesting about Ignihyde clothing is their use of sharp shapes and geometric patterns, especially in Ortho's case. I wonder how Idia's version of this outfit would look.

Ortho and Idia must've had so much fun creating this outfit together!

Infinity/10 if Ortho were trying to sell me anything, I'd buy it, regardless of whether I actually need it.

Rook Hunt (SSR)

He's wearing RED EYELINER!

His outfit is quite different from Vil's. While Vil is wearing a furisode, which is traditionally worn by women, Rook's outfit seems to have a more traditionally masculine silhouette (of course, this is just my interpretation). This probably means that Epel will get to wear an outfit similar to Rook's next time as well.

The peacock feathers on his red hat is also a nice touch.

His pose and expression remind me of Wen Kexing from the C-drama Word of Honor. They also have similar personalities.

10/10, he looks like he just stepped out of a period drama. I look forward to seeing the fanarts of him with Vil.

Jade Leech (SR)

Jade's card has to be my favorite from this year's lineup. I just love how they translated Octavinelle's suits into kimono, while keeping details such as the purple bow tie.

I'm obsessed with his haori--it looks fluffy. I'd like to buy five.

His pose is so...

Like Trey, he looks like someone's uncle (it must be the fedora). However, unlike Trey, he looks like someone's uncle who may or may not be part of the Yakuza. Instead of giving you money on New Year, you owe HIM.

He also looks like he goes door to door selling products, and is about to sell me what he guarantees is a genuine Toshiba toaster oven and absolutely not an overpriced knockoff that will short-circuit and cause my entire neighborhood to lose electricity.

11/10 I will buy that toaster oven anyway.

1. What was your first exposure to Danganronpa?

the Game Grumps, but NOT their first Danganronpa playthrough (~2020). at the time it was High Quarantine and i knew little about DR other than that it seemed Hunger Gamesy, and honestly i didn't know if i could handle that mentally. so i skipped it. eventually when they did DR2 (~2021-2022) i started watching that one, and when they were halfway done with that, i went back and binged the first DR to get context.

it was probably another year, however, before i really got into the fandom, as i found out my Manager really loves it too!

(really hoping they play v3 this year, by the way. they seemed very open to it last summer. i don't think they'll ever play UDG and i wouldn't want them to)

7. You get the chance to reassign five characters new talents. Who do you choose, and which new talents do they get?

i take this question to mean Talent Switching, and if it doesn't i don't care, so here's a few Talent Switch AUs for you:

Sayaka is now the SHSL ASSASSIN who took up the job to pay bills after her idol career began to tank. her cover is still the SHSL IDOL. she freaks out at the start of DR1 because she bungled her last assassination and she thinks the Killing Game is a punishment by some faceless contractor. the first trial is much the same, with Makoto finding out he didn't know much about this childhood friend of his at all, except we also discover her idol career had started to bounce back right before the killing game, and she would have gotten out of her job as an assassin. then, of course, we find out that she would have exited Hope's Peak to nothing at all. same plot, different emotional strings

Junko is now the SHSL CHILD CAREGIVER except she uses horrific Cocomelon-esque to keep kids hypnotically in line. she knows nothing about kids otherwise. there's no WOH because they're too busy watching ADHD Enoshima YTPs

Peko is now the SHSL ANIMAL BREEDER in an alternate universe where she gets to pet all the floofers she wants. she is sweet and quiet and if you threaten her majestic floofers she will disembowel you with a sword

Toko is now the SHSL ANTHROPOLOGIST. her understanding of culture helps her write novels that truly Encapsulate what it means to be a human, but doesn't help her at all in her personal life. (these things never do.) she is still bitter and angry and traumatized and Syo wants to disembowel cute boys to See How They Work. isn't humanity beeeeeeeyutiful? KYAHAHAHAHA.

K1-B0 as the SHSL ARTIST. still a robot, but now trying to figure out if what he does counts as AI Art and if he can ever understand others through it. Hope's Peak comes under fire for allowing him to attend, but nay-sayers come under fire from Miu, who shoots ping-pong balls at their faces.

-and I think we need a new Tsumu song. As a treat. Bc I’m still wary of him for some reason

-I want a song in similar vain to “True Feelings” where it’s just sweet scenes of Tangerine meeting/getting to properly know the Spring Troupe bc he owns my heart

-This is also unlikely but I hope we get new finale costumes. The bromides only show the first anni ones but I think it would be cool though considering the fact that they kept the initial SR costumes as finale costumes from 2018-2021 I doubt it.

tbh they also only got their SSR suuuper late. Feather was introduced in the game in 2014 and only got his SSR in 2020, and Randall was introduced in 2016 and he only got his SSR in 2021.

i do hope they get seasonals later on though, when you see that like. Cupitan was introduced and got her first SSR unit in 2022 and had her summer SSR in 2023.... there's favoritism here. Let the boys have fun!!

hey have you ever heard of the 2ft gauge railways of maine? So there was this guy George E. Mansfield who began preaching the narrow gauge railway as a cheap and effective way to get small, outlying communities transportation links to the outside world. He started with the Billerica and Bedford railway in Massachusetts, but that went bust within a couple years. However, the concept really caught on in maine. The equipment from the defunct B&B went to the Sandy River railroad up in Farmington, Maine, and by the 30's there would be 5 2ft gauge railways around the state. The Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes, the Bridgton and Saco River, the Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington, the Kennebunk Central, and the Monson Railroad. Though none survived through the 40's, all of them have at least one survivor, and the first three have dedicated preservation groups. The most successful of them is the WW&F in Alna Maine, wh who own WW&F #9, sole survivor representing the WW&F, KC, and SR&RL. WW&F #9 is the locomotive in my header photo, taken at the WW&F in the summer of 2021

Second Lieutenant Charles DeLesline Foster (November 26, 1948 - March 29, 1986)) became the first African American to enroll in The Citadel Corps of Cadets. He was born in Philadelphia to William C. Foster, Sr., a Korean War Veteran, and Blanche DeLesline Foster, a high school teacher. He had one brother. They were reared in Charleston, where they attended Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a member of its Sunbeam Choir. He graduated at 17 with honors from Charles A. Brown High School. He had been a star player on the football team.

In the summer of 1966, three African Americans were admitted to the Citadel, he was the only one who enrolled as a cadet. On the day of his enrollment, he was escorted by his mother, brother, and maternal grandmother.

He encountered blatant bigotry by white cadets, including shouts of derogatory descriptive phrases regarding his physical appearance as he walked to and from class or when he stood in formation with his company. When he was not harassed, he was ignored.

He graduated from The Citadel in the Class of 1970 with a BA in business administration. One local newspaper wrote one paragraph about his academic achievement. He entered the Army as a Second Lieutenant and worked as an explosives expert at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. After graduation, his demeanor changed, according to those who knew him, and he refused to discuss his years at the Citadel.

He managed a large moving company. He died in a house fire in Garland, Texas.

He was posthumously recognized by the South Carolina Corps of Cadets marching in his honor, and in 2021, The Citadel unveiled a portrait of Foster and Joseph Shine, the first two African American cadets, that was placed in the great hall of the Daniel Library on the campus. Day 20: The Skeleton Key (2005)

Day 21: The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (1980) - based on the book Behind the Mask of Tutankhamen by Barry Wynne; heavy embellishment of the 1922 discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen

Day 22: The Creature with the Atom Brain (1955)

Day 23: Son of Dracula (1943) - sequel to Dracula (1931) and Dracula's Daughter (1936)

Day 24: Willy's Wonderland (2021) - remake of the director's 2016 short film Wally's Wonderland

Day 25: The Mummy (1959) - loose remake of the Universal Mummy movies, which I will not fully list because there's a whopping six of them

Day 26: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) - very loosely based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan

good week! i got most of the "decades" movies i wanted to hit this week: 1940s, 1980s, 2020s. all that's left is 1910s at this point, and i've got a couple films in mind... one of them is a french movie almost three hours long (j'accuse !), so if i don't feel up to that this weekend then it will be another german movie sometime during the week.

i also managed to squeeze in a movie with christopher lee and peter cushing, so i think i'm satisfied with films targetting specific actors... there are more horror icons i didn't get to (lon chaney sr. springs to mind, along with more modern actors), but nobody's really singing out that i NEED to squeeze them in before the end of the month.

rambling thoughts:

The Skeleton Key (2005) - this film is agonizing because the script it SOOOO GOOD and the final plot twist so perfectly built up, but the more and more you think about said twist the more and more racist it gets. aghg. but props for including a blind willie johnson song and having it tie into said twist! and speaking of the music, i also have clearly listened to too much 1920s black gospel music because i didn't even realize the scene where kate hudson listens to the conjure of sacrifice record was supposed to be scary until i saw her roommate's face; i was too busy going "wow :) just like on my playlists :) gee whiz they did a really good job capturing the vibes of recordings from people like the reverend j.m. gates :) :)"

The Curse of King Tut's Tomb (1980) - nooooo not tom baker and raymond burr in brownface. but unfortunately that is... what i may not WANT but certainly what i expect from a cheap british tv mummy movie. and as cheap british tv mummy movies go... it has all the flaws and colonialist leanings of the genre but that aside i thought it was funly spooky. because it was a cheap tv movie, they had to depend more on atmosphere and mood, which worked well. there was apparently a cut scene where tom baker's character gets stabbed in the eye during his death scene where his plane explodes, and honestly thank GOD it was cut. that would have been way too over the top and luridly silly and the film works much better as an atmospheric period piece than an 80s gore film. i'll definitely need to revisit this one whenever i get around to writing my gothic mummy thriller, there's a lot of good and bad stuff in this to deconstruct/draw from.

The Creature with the Atom Brain (1955): this has got to be one of the most 1950s films to ever 1950s. you've got nuclear-powered zombies created by evil foreigners (one of who is an ex-nazi mad scientist named wilhelm, because of course his name is wilhelm) causing mayhem in white suburban bliss for our cop protagonist (played by richard denning, because of COURSE he's played by richard denning) and his happy homemaker wife and their Just So Darling daughter. all that's missing are teenage delinquents going on an anti-square crusade using the power of whitewashed rock 'n roll (probably because they were the ones in the audience when this came out). unfortunately unlike some dated products of the era this movie was just? boring? not awful, but not as engaging as the premise would suggest. this was the b-film for it came from beneath the sea and it definitely shows that this is a film they expected you to pay less attention to. the premise is pretty delightfully batshit, though.

Son of Dracula (1943) - southern gothic twist on the universal version of dracula, VERY cool, very atmospheric. also some great vampire transformation effects in this. just don't think too hard about the timeline of the series or who the primary immigrants from europe would have been at this time that this film is making a very questionable metaphor about--you WILL get a headache.

Willy's Wonderland (2021) - had this recommended to me by somebody at work. nicholas cage battles demonic man-eating serial killer animatronics, ft. annoying young people being insufferable. the movie's great but i wish it had just been about nicholas cage and MAYBE the liv character as his eventual surrogate daughter taking down the animatronics in increasingly absurd ways, but i also recognize the need of the young people to be cannon fodder. but also the animatronics were RIDICULOUSLY easy to take down. how were these things ever a threat. absurd.

The Mummy (1959) - insert repeat of the noooo not X in browface joke wherein X is christopher lee. i was going to make a joke about how this isn't a remake at all and because of how loosely the old universal monster movies took continuity it is in fact just a sequel and this is the same mummy that went up against abbott and costello in 1955. but unfortunately that mummy was named klaris and this one goes by the name kharis, the name used by the mummy in universal's second through fifth movies. so RIP that joke. ANYWAY. good movie. a bit tedious when the mummy's backstory is being outlined, but otherwise fine. i haven't seen all the universal mummy movies yet but just compared to the 1932 movie this one gives way more payoff on seeing an actual mummy walk around versus starting off with that and then skipping to boris karloff spending the rest of the movie with glue on his face looking like he very badly needs some moisturizer. but i do have a soft spot for the 1932 film because i got to see it in theaters in a double feature with bride of frankenstein two years ago, and for as much of a dracula rehash the plot is the german expressionist influence really was so gorgeous on the big screen. but i did really like the colors in this 1959 movie, especially the inexplicable funky green jell-o light in the mummy's tomb. very neato. also i watched this movie primarily for christopher lee and peter cushing and because i saw a video once that described the hammer mummy movies as cinematic capsules of post-ww2 british colonial nostalgia, and... mmhm. there's a scene where cushing's character has verbal spars with Mr. Evil Egyptian Stereotype™ about the proper way to respect ancient egyptian relics and burial sites, and respecting non-christian religions, and it is WILD how un-self aware the british filmmakers are in how both characters are presented. mr. stereotype makes some VERY valid points but the movie presents him as a completely irrational and backwards knave and cushing's character as a perfect and totally 100% correct saint who is smarter because he's Civilized™. it's like the 1932 movie that way, the film is so bafflingly close to criticizing its own colonialist leanings and sometimes literally seems to do so, but then the plot happens and it's just like. oh. that wasn't intentional. you're just oblivious.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997): this movie had me until the end. the characters were standard enough for a slasher movie, but likeable, with engaging moral dilemmas that made me want to see what was going to happen to them. then the plot twist for who the killer was happened and the movie lost me. maybe it's because i was repairing one of my shoes while watching and not paying super close attention but did we even meet the guy beforehand??? i don't think so, and when it comes to twists and mysteries, i like it when stories lay out clues where if you put in the effort you might be able to figure it out ahead of time. there was SOME setup in that regard, but not really enough for some random guy to be the surprise killer. it was a good twist in theory, but not in practice, and unfortunately did make me walk away feeling dissatisfied. i did really like the movie's soundtrack though. most of it was 90s rock and metal, but it was good 90s rock and metal, and there was some other stuff in there too, and any movie that has type o neative, leadbelly, AND bing crosby on its soundtrack is a winner.

BIO:

Aric B. made his first appearance on Eric Bellinger’s “Get Up” mixtape, released in the summer of 2021. Securing the first spot on the tape, he gained attention and recognition for his vocal talents and songwriting abilities.

Formerly known as “BERNARD,” he appears as a supporting vocalist on chart-topping Billboard records with gospel acts such as Jessica Reedy, Canton Jones, and Geoffrey Golden. He also demoed supporting vocals for Oscar and Grammy-nominated song “Stand Up” – from the “Harriet” movie – written by Joshuah Campbell, Solomon Foxx, performed by Cynthia Erivo.

Flemming is a graduate of Morehouse College, Harvard University, and New York Seminary. A student of black music, society, and religion, Flemming aims to captivate audiences with his soulful voice, his velvet charm, and his warm personality.
